Swim Class

Two summers ago, we enrolled Cruz in a swim class via our community recreation center.  While it wasn't a disaster, he didn't take to it like we thought he would.  He was just under two at the time and I think was more scared of the water than anything else.  The lessons were in our local high school's pool and maybe the water was just too cold for him.

Fast forward about six months and some friends of ours were going to enroll their daughter (who's just a bit younger than Cruz) into a different swim class, this one at a gym called AVAC.  At that gym they've built a whole aquatic center dedicated to teaching kids how to swim.  They have a large pool no deeper than 30 inches or so, and I'd hate to see their heating bill because the water is so warm.

Now two years later from that rocky start Cruz is a regular fish in the water, and having learned from our experiences with Cruz we started putting Whitney in the water early and often.

Here are a few videos that my mom took when they were here.  That'll be my parents having a conversation or chuckling during the videos.  They were also taken outside of the actual pool in the viewing area.

You'll notice that Cruz is the youngest in his class.  While we don't expect Cruz to be the next Michael Phelps, the groups are made based off skill.  He might not be the best, but we're giving him credit for being the smallest and youngest.

Whitney, meanwhile, took a rather quick liking to the water.  Or at least compared to Cruz.  She's still in the "Mommy and Me" class, but I'm sure she'll be joining her brother in the other part of the pool soon enough.

(By the way, you might notice my parents mention the tagalog word 'ihi."  Google it to figure out what they're talking about.)
