Ready or Not...

...Here We Come!!!

Some of you may recall that way back when, Sue and I bought a house. We've posted maybe one update on it since then. Maybe you thought we were living there, but not yet.

For those of you who didn't know, Sue and I elected to renovate the house before we moved in. Back when we bought the house, we knew that we wanted to renovate it.  The kitchen needed a total updating (the original 1960s cabinets were still in place, the oven and microwave were from the late 70s and early 80s), the master bath had ugly shades of yellow, and we wanted to convert a workshop into a 4th bedroom. But with Whitney on the way, the prospect of having a newborn while dealing with the dust, noise and inconvenience was unappealing.  So that's why we decided to stay in our rental while the work took place.

The house sat vacant and empty for over 100 days before we got our building approved by the city.  That was just a symptom of things to come, and now here we are, a month and a half behind schedule. But Whitney, while still an infant, is no longer a "newborn" and it's getting a little ridiculous paying rent, a mortgage and a contractor for our remodel.  So we're getting rid of at least one of those expenses and are moving in anyway.

The upper cabinets are in now, the ducting for the range hood is now there, and the counter tops are getting ready.

The last picture was taken 4 days ago.  Trust me when I say today doesn't look much different now.  So what needs to be completed before the remodel is all done?

1. Finish the electrical work which includes lighting, outlets, data jacks, and speakers.
2. Install the appliances.
3. Install the counter tops.
4. Finish the tiling in the bathroom.
5. Tile the backsplash.
6. Finish staining the hardwood floor.
7. Repainting pretty much all the rooms.
8. Painting of the new doors and closet doors.
9. Applying stucco to the new exterior wall.
10. Painting the new stucco to match the rest of the house.
11. Construction and placement of a door that leads from the garage to the attic.
12. Install faucets, shower heads, toilet and accompanying plumbing.

And I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things.  I wonder how many of those things will be done by Friday... because that's when we move in.
