We've been blessed with Whitney in our lives now for two and a half weeks. I have to say, the immediate newborn period was easier this time around rather than with Cruz. Perhaps it's because we truly knew what to expect. Perhaps it's because we had our experience from before. But for whatever reason, the transition hasn't been as difficult as we thought.
I'm sure that's in large part because Cruz has taken (so far) to the role of "big brother" quite nicely. For example a day or so after Whitney came home we were all changing her diaper. Cruz wanted to watch. Now Whitney was quite upset with the whole experience and was crying and crying. In the midst of this, Cruz bolts out of the room, only to return with tissues that he wants to offer to his little sister to comfort her. And let me tell you, getting the tissues was not without much effort as they're positioned just barely within his reach if he stands just right in his tippy toes.
Not that he wasn't before, but Whitney brought out a little TLC - tender, loving Cruz.
