Today Cruz turned 7 months old! It's amazing how much he has changed in such a relatively small period of time. Everyday there's the possibility of something new - a new ability, a new vocalization. And with all this, our perception of time has changed.
Up until the beginning of 2009, time seem to be going by progressively faster. High school went by quickly, only to have college go by even faster. Medical school was a blur and residency was over before we knew it. But time definitely began to slow down once we learned that Sue was pregnant.
Every week we would dutifully read how Cruz was developing. We kept track of how his organs were forming, the fact that his hair and nails began growing, and then we started to feel him moving. Each week was met with anticipation and thus our perception of time seemed to slow down.
After Cruz was born, things slowed down even more. The first few weeks were spent just basking in the glow of having a newborn. Then as he began to develop his personality and motor skills, every day now has the question "what new thing will he do today?" Time hasn't moved this slowly in decades.
All the same though, it's hard to believe that 7 months have passed. In the grand scheme, time seems to keep flying at the breakneck speed it had before. But we're thankful for this paradoxical slow down on a daily basis so that we can savor Cruz as he grows up.
What a beautiful expression of your perception of time with Cruz as the centerpice. Although, it might seem that time goes slow right now--I'm afraid there will be a turning point that as you watch Cruz grows up, time goes so fast before you know it. That is why there is a saying "ENJOY YOUR CHILDREN WHILE THEY ARE YOUNG BECAUSE THEY GROW SO FAST. WETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT THEY CHANGE ALL OF A SUDDEN AND YOUR CONTROL OF THEM WILL FADE SLOWLY OR ABRUPTLY." .So savor it while you can.
